Blowin' in the Wind

A Powerful Windy Night
Frail Tree Blowin' in the Wind
Tumbles to the Ground!

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.  The next best time is now.  ~Chinese Proverb

  1. I love that proverb. So true! I put off planting trees at my house in Phoenix because I didn't think I'd stay there that long. Then one day I woke up and it had been 30 years. I planted three trees and sold the house the next year!

  2. In your street? The Chinese have a great number of proverbs! Some are really good, however tough to follow them all! :-)

  3. I am pleased to say that 19 years ago I did plant lots of trees. They are thriving. Does 19 years count?

  6. Very scary! We had many huge water oaks near our home on Ocala's east side, and were much afraid that they would crash with a big wind or hurricane. They were also very expensive to get trimmed! :-)

BTW, we don't live in The Villages...but you're right about some of the folks there - they just ride around and have fun. Lots of fun. The Villages is now about 80,000 people with 60,000 golf cars!

  8. Such a pretty tree, and now it's gone. I planted trees when I moved to the place I'm in now. That was twenty five years ago. Now two of them are looking bad and I found out that type of tree only lives about fifteen years. Now I have to have someone come to cut them down. I will miss them and the cool shade they provided.

  12. I hate to see trees like that. I love trees and have been known to hug them. Poor tree.

  14. Kate, I'm beginning to wonder whats going on with the root system in your neighborhood?
Seems you posted another pic recently of an up rooted tree. This one broke at the top of
the roots? I suspect a disease, not wind, for the cause! If I had any trees that would cause any damage to my house or structures I would consult with an arborist. Rather be safe than sorry!

  15. WOW! The tree looks perfectly healthy but I think the previous comment makes sense.

P.S. Kate, I use the most basic program to do the mosaics: Microsoft 'Paint'! :-)

  16. That must have been some storm Kate, but it does look horribly familiar, a few years ago exactly the same thing happened to one of my big trees.
